How many gallons in a 24 ft round pool?
A 24 ft round pool with a 52 in wall, filled to 46 in (6 in below the top), holds about 12,972 gallons. Filled right to the top it would hold 14,664 gallons.
How to work it out
- 3.1416 × (24 ft ÷ 2)² = 452 sq ft
- Water depth: 52 in wall − 6 in = 46 in
- 452.4 sq ft × 3.833 ft × 7.48 = 12,972 gal
The 24 ft round is the most common above-ground pool size, which is why its gallon figure is quoted everywhere — usually as anywhere from 12,000 to 14,500 gallons. All of those can be right; they just assume different water levels.

Why the 24 ft number varies
A 24 ft circle has a water surface of about 452 sq ft, and every inch of depth is about 282 gallons. So the fill level matters a lot:
- Filled to 46 in (mid-skimmer on a 52 in wall): about 12,970 gallons.
- Filled to 48 in: about 13,540 gallons. 54 in wall filled to 48 in: the same.
- To the brim of a 52 in wall: about 14,660 gallons — the number some charts print, but not one anyone fills to.
- Intex’s figure for its 24 ft × 52 in frame pool is 12,481 gallons, about 44 in of water in a full 24 ft circle.
For dosing, call it about 13,000 gallons and multiply label rates (written per 10,000 gallons) by 1.3. Salt to 3,200 ppm is about 346 lb; stabilizer to 30 ppm about 3.3 lb. A wall of 48 in, filled to 42 in, holds about 11,850 gallons.
Next steps for the same pool: how much sand for a 24 ft above-ground pool, what size pump for a 24 ft above-ground pool and how long to fill a 24 ft round pool. A smaller round pool is on how many gallons in a 21 ft round pool; a bigger one on how many gallons in a 27 ft round pool.
